Restylane

Before and after

Cosmetic Clinics offer Restylane treatments as part of our dermal filler range of anti-aging treatments. Our Restylane fillers contain hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the human body. Unfortunately, along with collagen, this compound gradually declines due to aging which means that facial lines become more prominent wrinkles.

The cosmetic aging process is usually exacerbated by sun damage, air pollution and using the wrong cosmetic products on our skin. We can look after our skin by drinking lots of water, avoiding spending large amounts of time in the sun and moisturising daily. But, as we age, our skin naturally loses elasticity and appears less smooth and supple, meaning lines become more prominent wrinkles. A full surgical face lift isn’t for everybody’s budget or stomach, but luckily there are many alternatives to invasive surgery such as Botox or dermal fillers such as Restylane.

What is Restylane?

Restylane is a brand of dermal filler that has been used commercially for over 12 years for more than 10 million treatments worldwide. Not only is it a hugely popular dermal filler, it is considered to be one of the safest products on the market because research and development into Restylane treatments are continuous.

As mentioned above, Restylane contains hyaluronic acid. This is a sugar molecule that exists in almost all living organisms and performs many functions other than making skin appear youthful. As it is already naturally present in the human body, hyaluronic acid is biodegradable which means that Restylane will disperse harmlessly into the body over time.

Restylane dermal fillers are not permanent so patients opting for this cosmetic skin treatment will need to consider top up treatments every 6-12 months, depending on your age, skin type and lifestyle. However, the possibility of repeat treatments will be a point of discussion with your chosen Cosmetic Clinics doctor during your initial consultation.

What can Restylane be used to treat?

Dermal fillers are not just for filling forehead wrinkles or laughter lines as an alternative to Botox. Restylane treatments can be used for a non-surgical brow lift, nose-reshaping or plumping out cheeks for a more youthful appearance. Patients also choose to use Restylane as a means for lip enhancement. Lip plumping injections are growing in popularity and are available at your nearest Cosmetic Clinic so contact us to discuss your objectives.

What should I expect after my Restylane injection?

It is normal to experience some discomfort after the treatment and effects do not tend to last for very long at all. Side effects are typically linked to the injections used to administer the Restylane. It is not unusual to see redness, swelling or bruising and feel a small amount of discomfort, itching or tenderness at the injection site. This usually disappears after a couple of days but effects can last for up to 1-2 weeks.

Who should not use Restylane?

The reason why Restylane is considered to be far superior to older style dermal fillers is that it does not contain any animal derivatives. This means that patients are less likely to experience allergic reactions when choosing to have dermal fillers.

If you have just had laser skin treatment or a chemical peel, it is advised that patients avoid Restylane injections until the skin has settled down. Also, patients who have been affected by a skin disease inflammation or other skin –related problems may find that they are unsuitable candidates for treatment. Restylane has not been tested in pregnant or breast-feeding women so Cosmetic Clinics suggest that pregnant women avoid this treatment until pregnancy and breast-feeding have ceased.

Why should I choose Restylane?

Restylane is one of the most popular dermal fillers in the world for three reasons:

  1. It is safe and routinely tested
  2. It works
  3. Most popular dermal filler on the market

The composition of the Restylane used is dependent on what you want to use it which is why we have provided a list of the dermal fillers our Cosmetic Clinics doctors routinely provide. If you are interested in a consultation with one of our highly qualified and experienced doctors, contact us.
