Laser Acne Scarring Treatment

Woman with youthful face

Acne scarring occurs when the visible remnants of acne are permanently left on the skin after the acne itself subsides. As with acne itself, this can be unsightly and distressing for the person suffering with acne scarring. It is best that acne scarring is treated early with a dermatological procedure.

Laser surgery is a quick, safe and efficient method for treating acne scarring. The laser energy is directed into the skin at the affected area. These microscopic pulses of light penetrate deep into the dermis, stimulating the growth of new collagen, the collagen in turn lifts and supports the skins surface.

Treatment times are normally between 30 minutes and 1 hour. The number of treatments required can vary greatly depending on the severity of the scarring. An average number of treatments would be 6 sessions, each session spaced 3 to 4 weeks apart. As with all laser surgery, minimal discomfort in the form of a mild stinging sensation in the skin of the treated area is not uncommon.

Laser treatments are a much faster, safer and effective solution than many other methods, such as deep glycolic acid peels. And as they are non-ablative there is virtually no down time and you can resume your lifestyle straight away.
