Excess Sweating

Sweating is perfectly normal body process used to cool down the body in hot weather, when you are ill or when you exercise thoroughly. The body needs to maintain a constant temperature to stay healthy so sweating is a normal function. However some people suffer from excess sweating also known as hyperhidrosis.

Excess sweating can be either focal or generalized. Focal means the sweating is confined to one area, for example the palm or underarms. This can give you a sweaty handshake or profuse sweating of the armpits which can be embarrassing. Excess focal sweating tends be genetic and affects both men and women equally.

Generalized excessive sweating is excess sweating all over the body. This is usually indicative of an underlying medical condition as many illnesses can cause it including anxiety disorders, heart problems nerve damage and drugs.

Focal sweating is not a serious medical condition and it can vary in severity; it can be made worse be certain triggers like spicy foods or emotion. As there is no underlying cause you only need to pick a treatment. Botox is an effective treatment for excess focal sweating, resolution of symptoms can last for 9—12 months.
