Cosmetic Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are gels which are injected into the skin. These dermal filler products add volume to facial skin instantly smoothing out lines & wrinkles and enhancing the lip line.

Older dermal fillers were made from animal collagens, but with their increased popularity and with medical and technological advances, the most popular dermal fillers are now synthetic non-animal products and hence have none of the risk of disease transmission. These new synthetic products are far less likely to produce allergic reactions than their older counterparts.

The most common dermal fillers in use today contain the compound found naturally in the skin (hyaluronic acid) this is the product which gives young skin its plump and health feel and appearance. Treatment consists of a local anaesthetic to minimise discomfort or a topical anaesthetic cream before the procedure. The injections are then carefully applied to the required area(s) and the whole procedure takes about 30 minutes to an hour. The procedure is very quick and does not involve any cutting of the skin.

After the treatment you may experience some swelling and redness, but these will subside over a short time. You can continue your daily routine as soon as the treatment is complete. Top ups of the treatment are required between 6 and 24 months, depending on the filler used. Your cosmetic doctor will advise you on this.

Below is a list of many of the available dermal fillers on the market today, the procedures for treatment of these may vary, from product to product, compared to the description above.
